Mrs.Weber was beyond herself when we were able to return to town. She had nearly gotten sick with worry. Esme, in all her grace and compassion, managed to assure her that apart from slightly wet stockings and damp hair we were both fine. Mr.Weber was out visiting the locals and would be late for dinner.
"You mustn't just walk away like that, dr.Cullen," mrs.Weber admonished me when Esme had excused herself and gone upstairs, and I helped the kind lady clean the table, "not with the young miss, she might catch a cold. The last thing we want is for your dear lady to be bed-ridden with illness."
